Mass edit category into parents plugin? (6 posts)

    Hello,

I have a brand new install of WordPress and manage a baseball blog. I have many categories of certain players and want to put them under a parent category of their current team. For example, the category 'David Ortiz' should be under 'Boston Red Sox'. Easy enough... unless you have over 1,000 categories (and counting) like I do. I moved over from Movable Type and the parent/child connection did not take when I imported archives.

It seems like there's no way to check off a certain number of categories and then mass-edit them to all have the same parent. I've been searching for a plugin and am surprised not to have come up with any. I remember a very old version of WordPress having this feature, so I'm quite surprised it's gone now.

Can anyone help, or am I stuck going category by category?

I'm going to give it a shot, thank you. It seems to deal with bulk moving posts to categories, not cats to cats, but we'll find out!

If it doesn't move cats to cats, probably wouldn't be too hard to write an SQL query to run directly in PHPMyAdmin to do what you need.

I have the same issue, did you ever find something to mass move categories to master category??
