   After upgrading to 3.1.2 from 3.1.1 on a couple sites with MapPress active, I received db errors when creating new pages / posts

   That's strange, I haven't heard of any issue with 3.1.2 (I use it myself). It would probably help if you could provide the error message you're getting, and a URL to your site.
