Hi – all. I have been reading many posts and responses, and have yet to find the correct answer that works for me…
I have a reseller hosting account (using my nameservers, and dedicated IP) with WHM access, and have added accounts in WHM to allow for Cpanel access for each of the Clients. So i now created my main WP site and activated multisites, and the mapping plugin. I also added my first subsite and setup the mapping (everything from that point seems to be running). I am getting confused with all the different Cnames, Cpanels, A records to get the actual redirect working.

Currently it goes to the original account install in WHM, not the new subdoamin within mainsite. If i delete the hosting account in WHM, they will lose Cpanel access.

    How do i get
    subsite1.com to go to subsite1.mainsite.com
    subsite2.com to go to subsite2.mainsite.com
    etc

    Edit DNS zones in WHM?
    Edit Cpanel in mainsite?
    Edit Cpanel in subsite?
    Changes at Registrar?

When you are domain mapping, they DO NOT get cpanel access. They don;t need to.

The files are all shared – if one user edits a file, it shows on everyone.

you;re running your own version of wp.COM for your users.

Hi Andrea – thanks for the reply. If each client (domain) does not get a cpanel account how am i supposed to setup email (pop & forwarders) for them? I understand the WP install is only one one main site, and that they do not get cpanel access to THAT site (it is mine). The installation went smooth and the plugin seems to be working as setup

The MX records you need for email can be set up anywhere else.

you can use Add-on domains instead of parking.
you can send the MX records to google Apps.
you can use the email setup at the domain registrar.
you can set them up email accounts on the server directly. (know ssh? ;D )

CPanel is only a control panel to manage the backend of the web account. It isn’t needed for just email. (Email management runs through it, yes – but it’s not exclusive to cpanel)
