[resolved] Map a Subdomain which is not based on the hosted domain name? (4 posts)

I’ve been using WP multisite for a long while now and have a question to see if the following is possible, which ultimately means a new hosting account is not necessary if an existing network install can be used.

The install is for folder structured sub-domains.

This is working (all normal stuff)…
domain1.com . main site domain name
    domain2.com > subsite-a.. (e.g. domain2.com maps to domain1.com/subsite-a
    domain3.com > subsite-b.. (e.g. domain3.com maps to domain1.com/subsite-b
    etc…

Is it possible to map a Subdomain which is not based on the hosted domain name? e.g.
    domain3.com/subsite-c > subsite-c.. (e.g. domain3.com/subsite-c maps to domain1.com/subsite-c)
    or
    subsite-c.domain3.com > subsite-c.. (e.g. domain3.com/subsite-c maps to domain1.com/subsite-c)
    ?

    ..Thanks for any pointers :-)

    Justin

  2. You can map subdomains on another domain but I do not believe subFOLDERs.

So if you want subsite-c.domain4.com to point to domain1.com/subsite-c, yes

Thanks so much the reply :-) :-)… I been coming to that conclusion but I’m not quite there with it working then :-(
I have both the following mapped on my network with the ‘WordPress MU Domain Mapping’ plugin.

    Site ID Domain Primary
    4 domain3.com Yes
    3 subsite-c.domain3.com Yes

    Where…
    Site 4, domain3.com works ok.
Site 3, subsite-c.domain3.com gives the GoDaddy “PageOK” blank screen.

So I’m not sure where to go from here since I've got the GoDaddy hosting "pageok" blank page which I'm assuming means that the CNAME Alias “subsite-c” is defined and passing thought onto the hosting account IP fine but that once there the host (or wordpress) doesn’t quite know what to do with it?

so again if there's any hope please let me know :-)

Arh! just adding a new Hosted Domain as is all that was needed!
    So I now have

    domain3.com
    subsite-c.domain3.com (<< added one)

both defined as hosted domains and they work.
