    I know that there is a way to manually choose a theme by entering the correct url in the address box but I can't find the posts that reference that.

    There's the preview theme plugin.
    And the theme switcher plugin.
    The latter works like this.
    http://yourwebsite/index.php?wptheme=Theme+Name
    Notice the + sign between two word themes.

    sadly the themeswitcher plugin doesn't work for me.

    I tried this http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/index.php?wptheme=classic

    Unfortunately, the regular theme still shows.

    You have to use the theme name not the folder name. Therefore it would be WordPress+Classic for the classic theme.

    For some reason, the "http://yourwebsite/index.php?wptheme=Theme+Name" didn't work with 2.5. I ended up installing this preview plugin:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/theme-preview/installation/
