Manual update to 2.9.2, still getting error (6 posts)

I first tried the automatic upgrade from 2.9.1 to 2.9.2, but after that stalled and never completed did a manual upgrade. In fact, I've uploaded the new files several times and still get the error notice: "An automated WordPress update has failed to complete - please attempt the update again now" on every page of the admin section.

The update was successful but I'd like to get rid of that annoying and inaccurate warning. Does anyone know what I have to delete on the server side to do that?

Have you tried re-running the upgrade via Settings/Tools with all plugins deactivated and whilst using the default theme?

    Thanks for the reply.
I haven't, for two reasons. It seems the directory path on the server isn't completely correct (nothing updates automatically) and the theme we use is a heavily modified premium theme that my boss would kill me for destroying should I do so.
The site is updated. I just hoped to eliminate that warning from appearing.

Switching to the default theme and deactivating your plugins temporarily wouldn't damage your current theme.

The answer to this one (for anyone else who ends up here with the same problem) is:

Go to the root directory of your WordPress install and delete the .Maintenance file.

    :) Clears it up immediately.

Had the same issue with updating to 3.0.

The removing of the .Maintenance file worked for me!
