I think I may have made a mistake when exploring the plugin by locking out my own IP address – I cannot log in to my website (maintenance mode). I’ve tried deleting ht.access without any success. Is it possible to manually uninstall the plugin via ftp without permanently breaking the site, so that I can regain access? I want to be sure before I try it.

ps. I can access the front-end but not that back-end.

If you delete the root .htaccess file you should be able to log into your site. I see that you already did this, but double check that the correct .htaccess file was deleted. If you still cannot log in for some reason delete the wp-admin .htaccess file. If you still cannot log in at this point then BPS is not causing this problem. If you have any other security plugins or login plugins installed then rename your plugins folder and see if you can login to your site. If you can login successfully then rename your plugins folder back to plugins. At this point you will have to figure out which plugin is causing this problem.

It turned out that the problem wasn’t with the plugin after all, but with my web-host mistakenly blocking my IP. I will remember the info you have given though, in case I ever need it for future reference.
