[resolved] Manual subscription (comment-subscriptions) gives 404 page not found (17 posts)

    Hi,

I'm trying to implement this plugin on http://www.inflection.nl. A sample article that allows for comments and subscriptions is Wat is LEAN Six Sigma bij de overheid?.

If a user writes a comment and check the box their emailadress will show up in the subscribers list, so that works. But the link for a manual subscription leads to a 404 page not found. Both http://www.inflection.nl/manage-subscriptions and http://www.inflection.nl/comment-subscriptions do not seem to exist and return that error. The virtual management page is enabled in the settings.

I'm using the latest versions of both WordPress and the plugin.

Thanks for your reply. I've completely reinstalled the plugin. This time, the link for a manual subscription leads to a blank page.

    A screenshot of a blank page? ;-)

You can use the URL mentioned above, but if you need anything specific please tell me what you need.

Hello inflection, I replicated your error. Of course a screenshot of a blank page will not work, I was referring where you click, but don't worry, I have replicated the error.

Please verify that the URL you are using on the settings follows your permalink structure.

The permalink for your management page (something like /manage-subscriptions or /?page_id=345). This page does not actually exist in the system, but its link must follow your permalink structure.

Let me know how it goes, regards !!

    Permalink structure in WordPress: http://www.inflection.nl/%category%/%postname%/

    Management URL for plugin: http://www.inflection.nl/comment-subscriptions

    @inflection

Like I said, you have to follow your permalink structure, so acording to what you share this must be on you manage page:

So you said permalinks are in /%category%/%postname%/
Therefore you must have the same in

Management URL: /manage-subscriptions/manage <-- Try this
Management URL: /%category%/%postname%/ <-- Same as permalinks.

I have the same error as you when I replicate it and this is the fix.

I tried http://www.inflection.nl/%category%/%postname%/ and http://www.inflection.nl/%category%/%postname%/manage-subscriptions before, and now I've tried /manage-subscriptions/manage as well but everything I try gives either a 404 or a blank page.

On the page of the article the link literally says /%category%/%postname%/ and it's not filled with the actual category and postname.

    Hello,

WP add the last "/" !
So you need to add this to your configuration at the end >>
    http://www.inflection.nl/manage-subscriptions/

Maybe @Reedyseth need to add by default no ? ;-)

Not for me, not related to the slash at the end, only difference that made between a blank page and a 404 page...

@Ron van der Kolk if your issue solved ?

No, still a blank page. Adding a slash at the end or not makes no difference.

Same issue here. The plugin has been working flawless before, but out of the sudden (I guess after updating wp or another plugin) the subscription management page doesn't work anymore and leads to 404 page. Nothing in the permalink structure has been changed.

Like I said before, the problem here is the permalinks structure so quoting @emielm

The problem was indeed that the “virtual management page” link wasn’t following the permalink structure. So that’s solved

Like Reedyseth mentions, it was a problem with the plugin's vertiual management page link not following the site's permalink structure.
