Managing data with SVN (1 post)

    Hi,

We're using WordPress 3.0.1 for a client and have the live site running at http://www.ourdomain.xxx on one box, with development and staging sites running off another box at dev.ourdomain.xxx and stg.ourdomain.xxx.

The plan is, as we make amends to the site we'll push code from dev to stg, then finally on to www. So, when 3.0.2 comes out, or plug-ins get upgraded we'll update first on dev, then push through.

The challenge is that on http://www., the live site, data is ever changing as posts and comments come in. Then, of course, from time to time, on the dev server, new plug-ins will change the underlying data model as we build on dev, so we'll need to make those changes to the live data model when we push to live, while being able to incorporate the latest posts added into the live database in to the updated dev database before doing so.

While we've got a manual process for making this work, it's a headache - and we think there must be a standard way of resolving how we can manage data abd changes to the data model within a development and live environment.

    Any tips or help appreciated.

    Rgds
