The "Search Posts" feature found in Manage->Posts never returns any results, even for posts with titles including the search term I know exist. It always says "No posts found".
The settings in that page are the defaults: "All Posts", "Show all dates", and "View all categories".

p.s. The template for entering posts to this support forum should be updated to include version 2.5.1 of WordPress (right now it is just 2.3.3 and 2.0.11 !).
Am I alone with this problem?

Try removing the trailing / from your permalink structure. Worked for me in an AJAX'd search bar
I set the permalinks to "custom" but the search still returned no results (and I know I have a post with the search text in it).
I found the settings page for permalinks confusing, too.
I had been using "Day and name ... http://www.reeves-hall.net/2008/07/01/sample-post/" and changed it to "Custom ... http://www.reeves-hall.net/2008/07/01/sample-post" as you suggested - no trailing slash, and making it in the format as the non-custom settings (i.e. with the preceeding http://www.reeves-hall.net/).
However, after I applied the settings a forward slash was prefixed to the address ("/http://www....).

Its a plug-in problem: The "Search Everything" plug-in (latest version 4.6.2). I'll contact its author, Dan Cameron, for a fix (http://dancameron.org/wordpress).
Should always check that first, eh?
Thanks,
~Andrew~

Same annoying stuff in 2.5.1. I deactivated a plugin and it was back.I have the Idea that the culprit is an add_filter something that's not correctly done in the pluggin
