• Okay this is weird, I’ve used MAMP before and a local install and didn’t have any issues, this time I do.

    Gone through this

    http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-install-wordpress-locally-on-mac-using-mamp/

But when it gets to the point of opening the Start page in MAMP I just get an error in my browsers(all of them) “could not find localhost:8888”

I’ve tried a few other suggested ports that I found in the forums. I am only using the stock settings of MAMP now. I had heard that there could be a DNS problem, so I disconnected the WIFI and I don’t even get the error, just a notice I’m not online.

And my system and browsers are completely up to date.

  • What OS are you running? 10.9?

Also, you haven’t changed your default hosts configuration (this is basically your system’s default DNS) have you?

    this time I do.

So are you saying that this particular MAMP installation is working with other WP (or other scripts) now, just not a new one? Or, is this a new MAMP install on another machine?

    bemdesign:
    Yes I am running 10.9.1

I saw the replay in the e-mail so I went and checked the DNS entries were grayed out I put in OpenDns and still no change.

    2niner2:
These are both fresh installs, the WP is straight from WP no mods or crazy bits.

if it helps I am running on
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
for my dns and the settings in mamp are stock.

To aggravate things further I did a MAMP installation on a brand new iMac and it works. Made sure my setting matched and I still had no luck.

    and it works.

    I still had no luck

    OK, now I’m confused.

Please clarify “it”, which “works”, and with what you are having no luck with “still” πŸ™‚

Sorry but what are you having trouble understanding?

I installed MAMP on another machine(not mine hence the use of “brand new”) and it works.

Still doesn’t work on my machine. Are you just a bot? you only seem to answer in questions.

Still doesn’t work on my machine.

… would have cleared things up straightaway. And I am far from a “bot” as I have been able to do this in 1:31 seconds, start to finish, with a new WP install on a default MAMP install. Sorry, but it just works for me, when I use all the default settings.

    Hi ultraorange,

What about the MAMP services (Apache, PHP, MySQL)? Are them all running fine?
Maybe your port 80/8888 is being used by another service?

I had the same issue once, until I found out that Skype was using the port 80…

    (@ultraorange)

Only port listing inside of Skype for incoming is 7908.

Both lights are green. But I really have no way of checking to see if it is running properly since I can’t get to the setup page.

Will Skype occupy a port even when the program isn’t running?

No, it won’t, but what does lsof | grep TCP return ?

Ho and I found that too http://forum.mamp.info/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6390#p16983.
Not sure if it will work for you, but why not try right?

Checked the web sharing and I have no sharing enabled. Also I disabled google drive and dropbox. Think that airdrop could be involved?
