Making my WPtouch powered site load fast (Has large featured images) (3 posts)

Hi, first thanks for a great free plugin. I could prepare my mobile site in less than an hour, complete with icons and menus, all setup very quickly.

My "full" site uses large featured images for each post. Now, while WPtouch mobile version of the site is able to format them into small thumbnails (I use Post Listings Options set to 'Featured Images' which renders the homepage via code in wptouch\themes\default\index.php), unfortunately the load times are high - because my featured images are large in size, like 720 x 400 pixels. I know if I can keep a 'small' version of the featured images as post-thumbnails that would load fast. Unfortunately the site has 1000 posts or so, and I have no easy way to create small thumbs from each of the featured images (or is there an easy way?).

Does WPtouch create a wptouch-cache of the thumbnails it formats? Is that a Pro feature?

Looking for anything else I can use to pre-create the thumbs so the mobile site loads fast the thumbs and the full site loads the full (featured) images.

    Thank you.
    Tara

    Hi Tara,

and I have no easy way to create small thumbs from each of the featured images (or is there an easy way?).

There is a plugin you can use to regenerate different sized thumbnails of your images - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/

Though, please keep in mind that it will change the size of the post-thumbnails that appear on your desktop site.

Does WPtouch create a wptouch-cache of the thumbnails it formats? Is that a Pro feature?

    No, not at this time.

    You're welcome.
