Making Column Wider (17 posts)

I am using the Theme "ChaoticSoul" and I want to make the main page column that has my posts and page information on it wider by about 40-50 pixels, i've tried finding it on the stylesheet but have had no luck. Could someone help me on what part of code I need to edit? Keep in mind this is not editing the sidebar width but the main page column width.

increase everything that is currently set to 760 px wide to something else -- ie, add 50px if you want to got 50px wider.

Then, apply that extra 50 pixels to this:

    #content { float: left; font-size: 1.1em; width: 517px; }

    making that 567 px.

whooami thank you that helped but if you look at my site again. That widened the page but it left an unnecessary vertical rule on the right hand part of my main column and my sidebar column. how do i get rid of these extra vertical rules that overlap onto my content? Thanks

you have changed the content on that page since I provided the css above.

there are 3 instances of widths being defined at 760 pixels in that theme's stylesheet.. I said to change those.

the is one instance of the content width being defined at 517 pixels in that theme's stylesheet. I said to change that.

All four of those need to be changed proportionately.

fwiw ,you have introduced a fair amount of validation issues. many of which are structural.

My initial recommendation was spot on. You just fucked it up somewhere

whooami i will change it back just like you said so you can look at it by changing all 3 of those values and the fourth separate one and then check it out. Tell me what is up cause I have definitely followed your instructions to the very last detail. so check it and i hope to hear back from you

Well me just starting to use wordpress just over a week ago and having no experience at this. I've just looked through code and altered what seemed to look right and gone off other examples on websites. I have no idea what i have done wrong. I looked at that post you mentioned and it seems he has done the same thing, yet his webpage now is corrected the right way. i tried to look at the page source but i couldn't see what he had done. So would you have any other ideas for me to be able to fix it, because I am a extreme novice and don't know really what to look for.

that background you see is an image:

so you will need to mess with that.

you look at his CSS --

-- Look at the source of his page to get the URL to his CSS.

Then bring his style.css up in your browser.

IF you were to copy his CSS verbatim, which at this point is simpler, you would need to replace the image here:

    with his image:

yes but now you have incomplete borders around the page, scroll down.

By the way, I missed seeing that image when I was making the changes to your css because the web developer toolbar, when making changes on the fly, hides background images.

So I apologize, this wasnt caused by anything you did, like I suggested above.
