Making "Back My Book" theme static (1 post)

I'm new to WP because my client wants a simple site with a blog (displaying the most recent blog) in a sidebar (with older blogs going in another page).

I have edited the BMB theme to look exactly like it the client wants EXCEPT I can't figure out how to create a block of "static" verbiage under the nav bar. I've read the FAQ about going into the Settings>Reading>Front Page Displays and I've done that but I don't see a place that allows me add static verbiage to each of my static pages. The BMB theme doesn't show that portion of the page to be widgetized.

I'd like to have a swf file in the photo area of the theme too. When I try to upload the swf file in the photo area, it will only accept gifs & jpgs.

Ohhh have I taken on more than I can handle? Ohhh I miss Dreamweaver! Except for the blog portion, this would have been done daaays ago.
