Make category page home page (keeping theme formatting) (8 posts)

    Hi there,

    I'm using WP and WPFolio 2 to host a small record label website here:
    http://amiablehundred.com

    I currently have it set up so that the home page redirects to the category page, which then displays in a nice way. However, the redirect time is unpredictable and tends to slow down the site's loading.

    I was just wondering if there's a way of making the category page (/category/music) the homepage of the site, while keeping the formatting that the theme uses? I've tried this method from the archives, but I lose the formatting.

    Thanks!

    this theme? http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/wpfolio

    Not tested, but backup your themes index.php and replace it with a duplicate of your category.php re-named index.php.

    Yeah, that theme, but there's a slightly newer version out.

    Thanks so much! That almost worked--the grid's just changed slightly, there's now two to a row instead of three. http://amiablehundred.com/
    Do you know how I could alter that?

    Thanks again

    Remove this from your stylesheet:

    .news #content {
         width: 640px;
    }

    or replace it with:

    .news #content {
         width: 100%;
    }

    Almost there!

    Hmm, that works if I disable my child theme, but if I have my child theme enabled--even if EVERYTHING in the stylesheet is commented out--it still goes back to two per page.

    I also lose most of the menu at the top if I turn my child theme off and use the edited style.css...

    Don't disable your child theme. put this in your child theme stylesheet (style.css):

    .news #content {
         width: 100%;
    }
