I doubt that this is strictly a WordPress issue, but I’m desperate for help, if anyone might be kind enough to take a look. I’ve got a fairly complex WordPress front page that will not load (sometimes) in IE7.

    The site is here: http://rchseaglesnest.org

When the page loads, it generates an error popup: “Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://rchseaglesnest.org. Operation aborted.”

Clicking OK, dumps tha page, and replaces it with a standard IE “Cannot display the web page” screen.

Here’s the crazy part. As far as I can tell, if you reload the page, the error doesn’t occur. If you reload the page AGAIN, the error occurs. And so on.

I’ll be enabling and disabling plugins and code chunks and fumbling with the developer toolbar and DebugBar on a backup copy of the site, but I’m just trialing-and-erroring at this point. If someone with more experience with IE than me might have time to take a look, I’d greatly appreciate it!

    Jeff.

  • I think this is a wordpress bug. It’s been around for a while, and it happens to LOADS of popular blogs online that use WordPress. I think the best thing for you to do is to somehow reach out to your readers and tell them to use Firefox, which is 1000000000x better than IE anyway!

I wish. 😉 My school is wired to IE, of course, so that’s off to a bad start, right away.

I think I’ve managed to track it down to some bad code in an ad block, however. (I’m using OpenX to manage “house” ads and such.) I replaced the block with something else, and I *think* the error’s gone.

So we’ll call off the hunt. Thanks a lot!
