I recently updated to 2.6, well a lot of weird things started to happen. My category names and descriptions were deleted, but not the category. Which sucks, because I don't know which is which. The my folders wp-admin and wp-includes won't let me add or makes folders. It just keeps saying "Operation not permitted" it won't even let me change my permissions. I need to a a folder of smiles for a plug in, but like i said it won't let me add or make any. So dose any body know what could be wrong?

The folder permissions sounds like it is hosting related, and not really WordPress.
The missing category names issue is a bug that's been mentioned elsewhere on here along with a few ways to fix it. Here's one of many blog articles on fixing it.

Well as per mrmist, sounds like permissions on folders, what are they at the moment? Should be 755, and why do you need to create folders in wp-admin or wp-includes?

Posted 3 years ago #Seems something went wrong while uploading the new WordPress files. Log in your cPanel (or whatever your host uses) and try deleting wp-includes and wp-admin from the file manager there. If still doesn't work, call your host and tell them to fix it. Then upload fresh copies of the two directories, perhaps using different FTP program.
There's a small chance this could be caused by a malfunctioning plugin too. Following the proper upgrade procedure and disabling all plugins is a must.
