[resolved] Main column on posts page too narrow on iPod/iPhone (5 posts)

    I'm using a Twenty Eleven child theme, with a static page as my home page. My site looks good on my wife's iPod Touch, except that the posts page/blog page renders much more narrow than the other pages.

    The site is here:

    scribblescribblescribble.com

    When I view the home page and About Me page, they fill up the whole iPod screen (whether I'm holding it horizontally or vertically -- the pages expand properly, is the point). But when I go to the blog page, the content only takes up a bit more than half the screen, with the background taking up the right side.

    Any thoughts?

    Edit: Well, it's not my child theme. I just switched my theme to Twenty Eleven to see how that looked, and I got exactly the same issue. Is this just a bug in the theme? I don't have many plugins, and none of them do anything that would make me suspect they were the culprit.

    It doesn't appear to be an issue with Twenty Eleven, either: I set up another WordPress site on my server with Twenty Eleven activated, and when I look at its post page, the width is correct.

    Just to be sure I hadn't altered anything before making my child theme and forgotten about it, I uploaded a fresh version of Twenty Eleven and activated it on my main site, but the problem is still there. Deactivated all my plugins and looked -- still there.

    I'm really stumped by this. What is making this one page on my site too narrow on this one particular browser?

    Turns out it was an issue with how the iPod handles the max-width tag for videos. Found my answer here:

    As ever, thanks for your help, WordPress forums.

    I'm having a similar issue, but have no video - very perplexing. I'm new to WP so I may just have something set up strangely....

    OK, it was a bit of a search but I figured it out more or less - it's an intentional "feature" of flexible layout., it's just that the flexible layout was poorly implemented so it looks totally f'ed on ipods and ipads.

    I'm working on modifying the conditional displays so they render correctly, but in the meantime, if you just want to get rid of it altogether comment out this line in the child version of header.php:

    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width" />

    That's all it takes.
