mail ()

I seem to be having a few problems when readers try and register to leave comment and also when they try and recieve lost passwords.
When readers register, although I can see them in Users tab in the admin panel… they are never getting sent a password.

With the lost passwords, I am getting an error about my host may have disabled the mail() function. – I am pretty sure this isn’t the case as I am using this function in a form that works fine.

I have tried using wpPHPMailer and also tried changing the function.php code as suggested here… http://mosquito.wordpress.org/view.php?id=980

Any ideas???
