Magazine with monthly issue (6 posts)

    Hello
I'm working on the creation of a magazine theme. But, instead of having a continuous publishing of articles, as in usual magazine themes, I need a monthly issue. Because the magazine will be written by pupils, a different team each month.
I had some ideas on how to manage that, but they seemed me not very efficient.

    • Using wp multisite, one for each issue. But is that solution not overkilling ?
    • Using custom loops, with a custom field indicating the issue number. But how can I restrain the pupils working on one issue from changing post in the next issue ?
    • Thanks a lot for any creative suggestion.

I think multisite is a little OTT for this. Have you had a look at some of the chapter or series plugins - such as http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/organize-series/

    Hello
Thanks for that rapid answer. I will see if those plugins can do the trick.

  4. I agree with esmi, multi-site is overkill. I made something similar a while back.

This site consisted of a series of "Chapters and I created a page and then sub-pages for each chapters. I was lucky in the fact that we only had 7 chapters though, so that kept it pretty simple.

    Hello Christine

Thanks for your answer. You did a nice job with that online book. What is the internal structure of it ? A category for each chapter and posts "inside" ?

But that's only a part of the solution. I will have to manage teams that have to write the monthly issues independantly one from another. Do you know a trick for hiding catagories for some authors or contributors ?

  6. I only used pages on that site, not posts or categories.

I think that the plugin Esmi suggested looks good and might suit your needs.
Perhaps you could also look at the role scoper - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/role-scoper/
That would allow you to limit authors to certain categories.
