    Hi,

I just upgraded to Magazine Basic 3.0 (from 2.7.9) and immediately had to revert because none of the Front Page excerpts included photos any more.

All of the photos I use on my blog are hosted in Flickr and Magazine Basic is (or possibly was) one of the few themes that would use those images on the front page, the archive and category pages.

Was this removed intentionally? Is it something that will be fixed or will I have to either hand-code this functionality or find a new theme? (No I won’t be hosting my images in wordpress.)

    Help please.

me too. had to revert. no images. no word control. other fine controls are gone. fonts changed. love the idea, but prefer 2.7 so far.

It was removed intentionally. WordPress introduced a new feature way back called Featured Images for posts. That is now how Magazine Basic displays images. Here’s a guide: https://themes.bavotasan.com/faqs/how-do-i-set-a-featured-image-for-my-post/

The old way was not efficient and slowed things down on your site.

Thanks for the followup and for letting us/me know that that functionality is gone. I assume it’s not available on Magazine Pro or Magazine Flow either.

I’m aware of the hit in performance but there is method to my madness of hosting all my images on Flickr. In the last 9 years of blogging, I have moved hosts 4 times (and CMSs twice). Hosting outside the CMS makes migration SO much smoother, more reliable and predictable. It also adds an extra layer of SEO which has been great for me.

BTW – I do love the other enhancements to the new version. I’m disappointed I can’t jump right on board.
