• Hi, I have a question about using excerpts.

I’d like to be able to have a descriptive excerpt for my posts, AND have readers be able to click on a link to read more. I’ve tried putting the <!–more–> tag inside the Excerpt field, but it doesn’t have the desired effect. It does, however, show up in the page’s source code.

Posts where I put <!–more–> in the body of the post also don’t provide the “read the rest of this entry” link. I’m using the Utica Avenue theme – when I switch back to WordPress Default theme, <!–more–> works within the body of posts, but not in the excerpt.

Any advice? I’ve tried searching the forum on this topic, and did see some on-topic posts, but couldn’t decipher an answer out of them. I’m quite new to WP, HTML, CSS etc.

The website is under construction at fastlittlearticle.com

    Thanks!

  • I just did a search also (on “more” and “excerpt”) and found this which looks like it will do what you want:

Of course, the_content usually uses the more tag and the display in the link can be changed as per the instructions for the_content. This plugin evidently adds the more tag to a function which replaces the_excerpt.
