    Hi,

I reset my DNS servers to point back to my hosting site at BlueHost (they were pointing to wordpress) and then installed wordpress on my site. Only problem is that now my original wordpress site has disappeared off of wordpress's servers. When I go to http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com it leads to my new (and contentless) site http://www.byjakebailey.com.

I need access to the http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com site in order to copy the previous blog posts into the new self-hosted site on BlueHost (www.byjakebailey.com). How do I do this? Why has my wordpress.com site somehow synced and/or erased from this switchover?

Any help would be hugely appreciated as I'm freaking out a bit over the loss.

    Best,
    Ryan

    @jbaileyla,

Try to make an entry in the Windows Host file to point to your old blog.

    1. Navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    2. Open the file hosts with notepad or any other text editor
    3. At the end of file add the following:

    74.200.243.251 http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
    74.200.244.59 http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
    76.74.254.120 http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
    76.74.254.123 http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
    72.233.2.58 http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com
    72.233.69.6 http://www.jakebaileydotcom.wordpress.com

Login to WordPress.com, get all the content, and once done remove the entries from the Hosts file. Each time you make changes to the Windows Hosts file, make sure you restart the browser.

I had a WordPress.com site with the domain name http://www.watersportinfos.net (not http://www.watersportinfos.wordpress.com)and have decided to host in myself. The problem was that as soon as I sett he nameservers, the entire content of the site has dissappeared and been replaced by the standard startup content of WordPress. Have I now lost all my content or can I use the same method that has been described here?

You need to go into your wordpress.com login and edit your domain settings to tell wordpress.com to not use your own domain name again, but tell wordpress to go back to the original name.wordpress.com URL instead.
That way you can visit your new black wordpress with your own URL and visit the old wordpress.com one at the wordpress's URL. That will help you with the transfer process.
