[resolved] Lost my secondary site... (8 posts)

    Hi all,

I'm fairly new when it comes to Multisites and now I have an issue, which I hope someone in here is able to help me fix - or at least give me some guidance about where I can find a solution to this...

I've searched, but haven't been able to find the fix...
I've posted on the Danish WP forum, unfortunately I got mislead, hence the current situation/issue...

It all started when I had installed a WP Multisite in a subdirectory...
    Everything worked well...
Then I wanted to launch the new web-site and wanted to move it from the subdirectory and to the root of the domain...
I got advice that I could move it similar to how I can move a standard one-site WP installation, but that's the most stupid advice I've ever taken...

After many hours work, I have managed to move everything from the subdirectory to the root...
The primary web-site works well, however, the secondary web-site doesn't... :-(

Furthermore it seem there's another - and maybe related - issue...
When I log into the backend the URL seem to be missing a "/" after ".dk"...
It looks like the following: "www.xxx.dkwp-admin/network/"
It's easy to add the missing "/" between ".dk" and "wp...", however, there seem to be some functionalities are missing...

    I.e. I can't create a new subdomain (eg. http://www.xxxx.dk/new1, http://www.xxxx.dk/new2 etc.) and likewise I can't delete an existing subdomain...
I do see the "Are you sure you want to do this" message, but there's no confirmation and/or cancel buttons to confirm the action...

Hope someone here can guide me to fix this...

  2. Directions are here for moving multisite: http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_Multisite

In theory, if you do the DB search/replace now, you should be able to go forward.

Thanks for the heads up, Mika! Much appreciated...!

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear in my initial post...!?

Following a really bad advice from one of the Admins on the Danish WP forum, I've already moved the site from a subdirectory and to the root...
Subsequently I've read the Moving WordPress Multisite realizing that the way I had moved the site from the sub-directory couldn't be made the way it was explained in the advice given...

After a lot of work, I've finally managed to get the primary site up running, however, the secondary site (eg. http://www.xxxx.dk/new1) doesn't work and even if I try to log into the backend of that sub-domain, I only get a 404 message from the primary site, telling me that the sub-domain site isn't available...?!?

In addition - but maybe related to this - logging into the Network domain, also behave a little mysteriously...

...the URL seem to be missing a "/" after ".dk"...
It looks like the following: "www.xxx.dkwp-admin/network/"
It's easy to add the missing "/" between ".dk" and "wp...", however, there seem to be some functionalities are missing...

Is it somehow possible to "re-install" or "re-configure" the Network/Multisite...?

  4. It's not really BAD advice. It's just not something enough people do to have everyone familiar with it.

I understood what you said, but see ... you said you did 'a lot' of work. Without actually knowing exactly what you did, it's hard guesswork to tell you what you need to undo.

My guess is you didn't set the base URLs correctly, and they're missing the /, and the reason I gave you the link, was so you could see (a) what you were supposed to do and (b) hopefully compare it to what you did do, and sort out what was missed/done incorrectly.

I fully understand - and like I mentioned earlier, I do appreciate that you're trying to help me...!

Actually I did everything stated in the Moving WordPress Multisite and that sure is a lot of work...

Like I also mentioned, the primary site is working exactly as it should (read: is supposed to) - also at the backend, where the forward slash sign isn't missing, like it is on the Network backend...

    I can only quote myself...

Is it somehow possible to "re-install" or "re-configure" the Network/Multisite...?

If not, I'm prepared to redo the entire sub-domain site, as long as I can get some guidance to how to do it without damaging the primary site...

I.e. I've replaced the "true" with "false" in the wp-config.php file
    define('WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true);

This gives me a standard WP installation containing the primary site, which is fine, however, if I then reverse it again, I just get my "old" Multisite up running...
How do I re-install the Multisite...?

Please advice all steps needed... ;)
    Thanks in advance!

  6. You'd have to remove the DB tables, which means loosing your subsites.

    http://wpmututorials.com/how-to/how-to-disable-multisite/

It's possible you just missed a slash in the wp_sites or wp_blogs tables, though.

It's possible you just missed a slash in the wp_sites or wp_blogs tables, though.

That will definitely be something I'll need to look into during today...
Removing the DB tables will destroy my primary site as well, so I find this being a "No option" for now...

Thanks for trying to help me with this...
I will report back with the outcome later this week...

    OK...
Got it all up working again - now from the root... (looking for a very happy smiley)

    What I did...
First I disabled the Multisite following the guides in the link posted by Mika...
Then I changed the wp-config.php file as if I wanted to install Multisite again...
After having adjusted the Network settings, everything seem to be working correct...!

Thanks again for the advice, Mika...!
