    After clearing my history in firefox, I lost the localhost url that granted access to my wordpress site via MAMP.

    What is this url? Please help!

    Start by figuring out where you installed WordPress. No one here is going to know where you installed it on your own local machine.

    @esmi lol, I love it.

    Also, I know Firefox is twitchy when it comes to getting to your localhost. I had problems with it myself...

    Once you figure out where you put your site, here's how to make Firefox give you access to it instead of continuing to ask you for a username and password.

    Note that you may have to change "localhost" to add on whatever port you're using - I don't know how that works exactly

    Interesting link! I've always just relied in FF's ability to remember passwords better than I do.

    As for the port reference, I'm having to go back to the days when I set up proxies for a Win95 network held together with wet string and sticky tape but, from what I can recall, it ensure that calls to the local server are routed independently from external HTTP calls (which normally use port 80). This ensure that the local stuff stays local and can, if necessary, avoid firewalls etc.

    Thanks you all for your willingness to help.

    I am able to access the actual site I am building locally via http://localhost:8888/.

    The problem is I cannot get admin access to the site to edit posts, themes, pages, etc. I remember the url being something similar to http://localhost:8888/wordpress/wp-admin/admin.php. But when I enter this url, it just takes me back to the site homepage, instead of prompting me for a username and password to login to the backend of my wordpress site.

    What is the generic url that will take me to the login page at localhost?
