OK, check your wp-config for the table prefix. then check your sql db and see what tables are using wp_ wp2_ or wp3_ and so on. Then change your wp-config.php to what the DB has.
Thanks for the reply. I’ve now checked wp-config and the SQL tables, but they’re both using the same prefix (wp_).
If you just isntalled then it’s safe to say you have nothing to lose. Right? Log in to your SQL DB. Select all tables and hit the DROP button. Then run the installer again.
Unfortunately I’ve just spent many hours configuring my blog and posting to it, so this isn’t an option. And I’d be reluctant to do it without knowing why the loss happened in the first place, as it could happen again.
This is a PS to my previous post. I’m now certain that the problem is somewhere in the MySQL blog database, having restored a backup I made halfway through the day.
It does worry me that this can happen during what is normal usage.
It shouldn’t happen. Either consult your host about security and amke sure your user for the db has the bare minimum privs that it needs. That way things can’t get screwy
I’ve found out what happened. I accidentally deleted the site URL in options while I was configuring the installation.
A suggestion for future releases would be to remind users that this is a vital piece of information, or to pop up a warning if it is left blank.
Thanks for the help and suggestions, greatly appreciated.
