During a recent storm, my surge protection and battery backup failed me miserably when lightning decided it wanted to travel to my house, smack it, and fry just about everything I had plugged in at the time. Unfortunately, this meant my computer. The HD and all data was lost. So now I am without any backup material. I want to rebuild my database and downloaded the recent version of WordPress on my new computer. However, I am quite afraid of loosing everything I have created so far if I reinstall and upload the new database. Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

All of my updating, blogging, etc, was done online and not created and uploaded through that computer.

Unless your *host* was also affected in a similar fashion, you shouldn't need to do anything except get a new computer. Just because the computer in your house explodes doesn't mean your online content is gone.

The host was unaffected. Simply put, downloading and re-installing wordpress should not affect current content on my wordpress blog?

Re-installing where? On the host or on your own machine? Why are you mixing unrelated things?
If the host was not hit by that storm... why would you want to re-install it on the host server?

Own machine and my apologies for mixing unrelated things.

Since your machine is not related to your host(ing)... you can install and download anything you want. Just do NOT delete anything on your host server while messing with the things there.

Easy enough. Thanks for your time and patience.
