• I was editing a form for my website and deleted a form field that I didn’t think was needed anymore. Once the form was updated, all of the past entries from that field in that form have disappeared.

Is this normal? And is it possible to get that information back?

  • It is normal to have that happen. If you delete a field, it is mostly asusmed that you don’t want that data ny more too. Getting the data back may be possible, but it depends on the plugin that you’re uisng and how that owrks. It’s impossible to say from what you’ve said before. But… I’d be ready to hear that it’s gone.

You could always contact your hosting company and see if they have backups from the day before, or weke before or something that they can restore? That’s one of the few ways around this problem.

Thanks for the quick response – I did not setup this site, so I’m not very knowledgeable about the specifics – but it looks like there is a “Gravity Forms” plugin installed. Any ideas about if there would be any backups with that?

To the bst of my knowledge, Gravity Forms deletes the data when you delete a field. As for where back ups are, unless you’re taking them yourself, your hosting company might have some, but you’ll have to ask them.
