I had hosting with GoDaddy and it expired. My blog is now gone unless I pay them 150. to recover it. I just want it back to get my articles and I don't want to host it. I am not trying to market with it. Question, isn't there a file with my site w/ WPress? GoDaddy doesn't own that blog, I do. I built it, they just hosted it. I had tried to dwnld it to my computer and it was impossible to do. Am I screwed??

No. WordPress.org here only provides the software. All your content is in the database which is hosted by GoDaddy.

It is your own responsibility to keep backups of your database and other content.

Couldn't you just renew monthly for a much lower price and just cancel once you've had a chance to take your files off? GoDaddy shared hosting is about $80/yr; $150 as a one-time fee seems a bit high.

I intended on renewing just to retrieve my content, but they want 150. to get the site out of 'devastation'. It has been discarded.

  5. Ouch, I feel your pain marcyc... But unfortunately, I think that your stuck and I also think that most hosts would do the same. Once you let your hosting expire, you need to pay for their service to get it back online.
