Lost access to admin panel. (9 posts)

I am running WordPress on my localhost and entirly lost access to the admin panel. It keeps telling me that the username and password do not match.

I tried changing it in PHPMyAdmin (hashing it with the MD5 algoritm) but even this does not seem to help.

What I think is the wierdest is that when I change the password through PHPMyAdmin and browse to a different table. Soon as I look it up again the password has seem to changed again.

    Example:

I set this as my password (MD5):

    72036bcacad38af38b4cb128f30d984d

Now if I save that and try to log in using these credentials it changes the password again in the database to:

    $P$BrvjMljdQ9oq7waIirVdz.dnTqvsYt/

Why is this happening and what can I do to prevent it?

This is happening by design. Although WP does accept MD5 encrypted passwords, on first login it re-encrypts the password using its own, stronger, password class.

Not even the emergency script seems to work.

Ok, but how would I get hold of a string that I can use in case of emergency's?

Basically what should I do now?

It does not accept them on first login either. When I cange it and try to access the back-end it refuses to let me in.

    Just managed to get it.

    1. Stopped all services.
    2. Closed the browser.
    3. Tried again.

It first told me the password was wrong. Then when I openen a new tab directing it to /wp-admin it openened up the panel right away.

    Still a wierd situation.

Are you trying to use the encrypted version of the password to login? If so, that's where you're going wrong. Ignore what is happening in the database and just enter your password in plain text.

No I used the plain text version of the password.

Read the above posting. No idea why it acted like this but I managed to get in.

But thanks for trying to help out.
