for a little bit of help with my wordpress/website/blog.

basically I got started 4 months ago when I bought a domain name at IWEB.ca I basically know nothing about webbuilding, very little HTML, so wordpress was a perfect option and it was included in the package.

To get me going I hired a web guy, he helped me with a few things such as getting my site up on the server and building me a banner bar which rotates between posts and a few other small things.

Other than that, I can pretty much keep the site up to date myself with the wordpress software. for the most part...

Unfortunatly I am not in contat with the guy who got me started anymore and I was hoping to get some help with a few things.

    http://www.point-spread-consultants.com

    1) I cannot locate the page where the 468X60 banner changer is in order to update the banners. I would like to be taught how I can update those banners myself.

    2) I was hoping to change the plain text on top for the header into something more snazzy. a banner header with sports and las vegas images.

    3) I wanted to ad a Google Ad sense box in the left hand column, I have already registered but I dont know what to do here.

    4) I wanted to add a hit counter to the site.

    5) I was wondering wether it was worth it to upgrade to the latest wordpress, and find out if someone could help me with that. I have seen alot of reported problems on the forum.

I hope there is someone out there who could help me or lead me to somewhere I can get help.

    Just some ideas...

    1) I cannot locate the page where the 468X60 banner changer is in order to update the banners.

Looks like your banner is not on your site, but is just being included from here...unless this is another site of yours.

EDIT: Removed this link because it looks like it may have caused this reply to be caught by the spam catcher ;-) Just right click on that rotating banner in your site and look at properties to see where it is located.

    2) I was hoping to change the plain text on top for the header into something more snazzy. a banner header with sports and las vegas images.

Pretty easy if you know what graphics you want and have an idea of how you want them to look.

    4) I wanted to add a hit counter to the site.

I haven't used this, but may be worth a try:

Yes, there are potential problems when upgrading if you don't do it correctly. You are running WP 2.6, so your upgrade shouldn't be too tough as long as your theme and plugins are compatible with 2.7. I think it would be worth it to upgrade...if you are going to use this site for a long time, then you need to keep up with upgrades...you can't afford to get stuck on an older version...just my opinion.

thank you for taking the time to reply figaro.

I guess the guy that initially set up my site set up a page where those banners are hosted.

Also, by right clicking, you may be seeing the location where the advertisor is hosting the banner, because most of these advertisors provide HTML code and host their banners.

Thanks for all your tips, what I am really looking for is to hire someone to do it for me, and show me a few of the things along the way.

what I am trying to say is that the HTML code must be somewhere on my site, even if the banner is leding somehwere else?

I really know very little about this.

In relation to the forum header, I coudnt even find out where to go to change the code.

No problem...you may want to post something to the WP-Pro mailing list if you are looking to hire someone that knows what they are doing. See the link below.
