    Hi

I have been running a blog from wordpress.com for a couple of months (www.businessanalystmentor.com). It's really a mix of an information resource for professional or wannabe business analysts with a blog element. I also plan to make some income from book referrals and some other products that I'm working on. I'm looking to locate a more appropriate theme which will allow me to structure the content better (e.g. into several, possible multi-level categories or a page hierarchy) whilst supporting a pure blog - called something like 'Stories from the front line'.
I am also trying to determine whether I should cut free from wordpress.com so that I can have more control.
I would like to use widgets in the articles (for example to support article voting and a course review widget for professional courses) and embed google analytics and a general forum widget. At present, I don't seem to be able to do this with wordpress.com and I don't know whether there are due to site limitations or my wordpress ignorance.

My technical ability allows me to go as far as plugging in widgets, using ftp and some basic HTML page editing but nothing much more in depth.
Sorry this is a ramble - any advice would be much appreciated

    Alex

It's a safe bet that you will be able to handle running a wordpress site. It sounds like you'll enjoy the autonomy and flexibility from operating on a webhosting platform. I recommend that you select a linux web hosting package. When I first started, I was on a MS web hosting package and experienced a few problems with permalinks and images.
