Looking for suitable plugin for youth centre.

Can any one suggest a plugin that would be best for a youth centre website where each section (for example: Junior Section, Karate, Music Workshop, etc) would be responsible for its own subsite.
I have been looking at setting it up as sub domains and/or using BuddyPress Groups. Each seems to present its own problems when working with the main site.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
