• I grabbed a simple/clean design (static html) and ported it to WP. My interest was in learning and possibly my first theme release. http://test.samdevol.com/

If you have a moment, take a poke at it and feel free to feedback here? It’s a 2 content/column with sidebar, supports widgets and uses ozh’s themetoolkit (make some theme changes from an admin/options page).

  • Here’s what I saw at a glance:

Horizontal entries seperator line stretches across the whole page at times.

Blog entry title is not highlighted enough, and blends into the content mass.

Too much content stocked together on the main page confuses and bores visitors.

No accomodation for large graphics on blog entries on the main page.

No proper use of different colors for ease of nagivation.

    Which browser/OS?

    Absolutely spot-on, I totally missed that. Thanks…

As to the rest, I had intended to maintain the original design here http://www.oswd.org/design/preview/id/2784 so I’m unsure about straying too far from that (and that’s definitely NOT a theme for large graphics ;’).

I like the overall look; the lack of “room” for large graphics doesn’t bother me since I don’t do stuff like that anyway…. the only thing that looks off to me is the larger margin area to the left of the menu in comparison to the right margin outside the second post column.

I don’t find the lack of contrast a problem. Allows the content to shine, as it should. I’d like to look at the “original” but the site refuses to load at the moment….

Ack! Should be centered, aye…. It stopped centering at some point, will fix. Promise. Really. Honest.

Edit: Going to fluid columns/body. I could swear it was on my to-do list.

aadil: On my list. Still have to work it through ie’s quirks.

Everyone else: The logo image was still pulling from my localhost, fixed now.

You should make it work in Opera first IMHO and not in IE or Firefox. Unless the other two browsers passed the Acid2 Test.

Anyway, a few new quirks. The horizontal middle-aligned line seperators are just too underneath the Comment and Permalink links (a <br> tag or two should help) and do not have the same width as the blog entries body (setting width to 100% should help).

Added fluidity to the theme, and finally got it behaving in ie.

Any feedback welcome. Next step will be a public release (beta?)… Thanks everyone!

Holding back on this. I’m happy with the theme right now but when I try to allow a user to define which categories to display in each column with Ozh’s themetoolkit it breaks.

Hardcoded it works ok, but I’d like to avoid users having to edit the index.php. Posted to wp-hackers, hopefully someone will enlighten me ;’)
