Looking for Plugin/widget for a "This happened today" widget

    Hello All,

    I want to present a “Today In History” section on my site. However, I don’t want to just pull random historical events from History.com or some other site. I need to pick events that fit with the theme of my site.

    So, what I need is a widget/plugin that will let me enter historical events. Then, when the date changes, this widget will go and find an event where the month and day match. If there are more than one such entry, it will randomly select one. Ideally, I would want to include a thumbnail graphic for each event as well.

    I have tried searching and just slogging through all the plugins and widgets here, but have not found anything that comes close.

    Anyone know of such a thing? Any help appreciated.

    This is what I’m also looking for – i’d want to add my own events, preferably with an option where the description of the event could include a URL to a fuller article.

    Lots of ‘on this day’ type of widgets seem to exist, but a customisable one for WordPress (i’ve found one for Joomla) just doesn’t seem to exist.
