I've spent a lot of time searching the Codex for information that will help me move posts and their comments from one category to another, or to a Page, but haven't find anything (yet).
Can somebody maybe help me with a link to a helpful section or two? Or to an external source of info regarding WP comments?
Well you can delete a Category, and the posts in that Category can be assigned to a new Category.
There was a Batch Category plugin but don't know if that still exists...or works with 2.5.1

It must be easy to move post or to merge categories.

Sigh, I would assume something like this be integrated long time ago. Why is it so difficult?

I think that the Move Comments plugin is what you are looking for...
