I am a photographer and I am looking for some kind of a membership plugin that I can use for my customer's pictures. I did find some plugins related to memberships but it seems that they are not EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I need something where I can display different content to different users. i.e. This couple and their family and friends receive a username and password and have access to their wedding pictures, while a whole other family receives a different username and password with access to their family portraits. I hope this makes sense. What exactly would I be looking for and does anybody out there have any suggestions for me?
Thanks!

I am looking for a similar kind of thing. A kind of membership/registration that isn't the WordPress one. (If that makes sense.)

Yea I installed the user access manager and the extension for nextgen gallery but i couldn't find a way to set certain galleries for certain users and to give them a log-in or something.
Grrr, this is frustrating

Hiya!
You could use the Membership plugin for this.
It allows you to restrict based on category or URL groups amongst others. So, for exmaple, you could create a post with a gallery for one family and put that in the "Family 1" category. Then you set up a level granting access to that category and assign it to a user account which you give to the members of that family.
Or you could do the same but use a URL group instead of categories, restricting just that post.

Phil,
Does the Membership plugin provide hooks/actions throughout the signup process for adding in custom functionality without having to modify the plugin's core files? I need to tie into a few external APIs on a site I'm working on. Does the paid support/documentation document said hooks/actions if they exist? Thanks.

Yep! If I remember correctly there are about 4 separate hooks for the registration alone.
It's also relatively easy to use custom payment gateways if necessary.
