Sorry but I am a monster beginner about this. I tried to follow the instructions from here http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress but I failed.
I have my own domain and I want to set up a website using my own computer as a server. I just need an exact list of programs that I need to have installed, and clear steps that I need to do in order to do this.

I downloaded version 3.0.5 and from what I can tell my computer can’t open the install.php file.

I’m trying to learn this stuff but it can be hard when most people just assume you know the basics. I don’t know the basics. If anybody can help with this thank you in advance.

  • I have a article and videos on how to install a wamp server on your computer and install wordpress so that you can learn how to use wordpress locally before you go spending money on monthly host account.

I also have video tutorial that will teach you how use admin panel.

If you still do not understand any part will glad to help you.

I did it! I installed wordpress using your guide. Now what I don’t understand is how exactly I link my domain name (the one with www.) to my wordpress so that I can start writing content that can be seen by others.
    Can you help, please?

Wamp server is best used for local use like testing themes or learning how to use wordpress so that you do not have a host account where you have to pay for hosting.

I my self do not recommend using wamp server to go online unless you have good security installed as who knows what will happen when you get hacked.

After all hosting is not expensive this days like used be and at least you know that if hacked it will only effect host and not your computer.

As Gov said, running a web site accessible to the public on a home/office machine isn’t a particularly good idea unless you have a really good data connection (not home broadband) and know a lot about internet security. It also means you have to leave that machine running 24/7 365.

A WAMP server is fine for testing a WordPress site locally, but for actual web site hosting you should pay a hosting company.

Thanks for the all the help and advice. Indeed it is a good idea to pay for my hosting because I don’t want any troubles with my computer.
I will set this topic to Resolved now, I wish you all the best.
