   Hi, the login, registration and admin section of my website appears to be very slow. Sometimes it never even loads. I know I have 27,000 comments in the spam queue. Could that be to do with anything?

   Possibly. Are you running Akismet? Have you tried:

   - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

   - switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

   I am running Akismet.

   I take it I can deactivate a plugin by renaming it via the FTP?

   Yes you can.

   Can you recall how often Akismet was clearing your spam?

   My website was being spammed almost every minute, so I went ahead and installed Akismet and since then it's collected like 27,000 comments. Could I delete them all in one go, when I finally am able to login?

   I'd suggest clearing them out in no more than 1,000 chunks if I was you.
