Login Problems (19 posts)

    I installed WordPress on Dreamhost on Friday, 5/17, and tried to establish my username and password for the site today, but I am re-directed to the regular login page. I never set up the username and password, and I'm the only one with access to the site.

    I've set WP sites up on Dreamhost for years now and never had a problem. I did try to reinstall the wp-login.php using my ftp server, but this didn't help either.

    Suggestions?? I've asked for support from Dreamhost as well, but they seem to be dropping the ball. Need access ASAP. its a client site!!

    Thanks!

    I never set up the username and password, and I'm the only one with access to the site.

    Then whose username and password are there? You cannot setup the site without them. Can you?

    I have no idea. But it won't let me login and I never set up access. Normally, I'm prompted to the page where you do the site username and password, but that never happened.

    There's a WordPress site there - evidently named admin?

    http://www.billfoxstrategies.com/

    When I've used DH's quick install - they send an email to create the new admin account - did you not get that? Check your spam email?

    You could also look in the database to see what's there for users.

    I received the email for the DH quick install and today when I followed the links to set it all up, I was sent to the login page. I've tried to enter all of my email addresses, just in case, but it won't except any of them. So, someone/something has created a username and login- only I don't know who that is.

    I'll try the link you recommended and see if I can sneak in another way. Thanks!

    OK, try any of the methods for resetting your password in the kink provided by WPyogi.

    still not working.

    Most of those options are over my skillset. But the adjustment of the functions.php file is the one I can manage. Only, I don't think the line of code I'm adding is active, it stays black once I add the line of code into the place specified in the directions.

    Is there anything I need to put before this line of code? like a ":" or an ";" ??

    Edit the file and add this code to it, right at the beginning, after the first <?php:

    wp_set_password('password',1);

    wp_set_password('password',1);

    Replace password with your password. Or, don't do anything and login with your password as password and then change password.

    I got in with the mySQL database! Apparently a hacker got in this morning and set it up.

    Here's the hackers email: [Redacted. Don't post any email or hacked code]

    As it is a new site, just ask your host to cleanup your site/ uninstall and start with a clean slate.

    Thank you so much, Krishna!! I gave your link about going in through the mySQL database and it worked. The site had been hacked this morning and someone had set up their own accounts, so I changed the access in the mysql panel.

    Thanks so much for all your help!! You're a lifesaver!!

    crystaldstreet - We can scan your site at DreamHost. Just open a ticket and ask for a hacked site scan, and we'll scour your files for anything nasty/
