  • You should be able to access your self-hosted WordPress site from any computer on any network. However, this may be dependant upon the way in which the local network is configured and whether it is filtering out certain types of request.

    Thanks for the response.

If I go to a site that’s seen as dodgy in some way, I get an error screen. However, here I’m just getting the page refreshing. No bad login message or anything.

For a while I was worried that I was hacked or something, but event after changing the password I was getting the same result.

I’ve tried two sites hosted on separate hosting accounts and am getting the same result on both.

Do you have somebody you trust outside the hospital that can test logging in? That could help you determine whether it’s an issue with your server, or the hospital’s network.

I do actually. They have tried to log in and did so successfully.

As long as it’s not something within WordPress that’s preventing the login (for security reasons) would you guys have any suggestions for a workaround?

Thanks so much for your help.

It’s not WordPress-specific, but I’d recommend using a VPN service like ProXPN. That will allow you to bypass any filtering and monitoring the hospital network may have in place, and should rectify your login issue if it’s isolated only to the hospital. It’s a good idea to use one in general on any public wifi to protect your data and your privacy.

Sadly I can’t sign up to that from here (web proxies blocked) but perhaps if I can get one set up outside, it may work back in here.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, if you can perhaps get that same friend to help you with getting VPN service established and provide you with the VPN client and credentials you should be able to get through. I can’t really provide support for that process on here since this is outside the scope of WordPress.
