I have been having log on problems for the past week or two.

I'll go to http://www.wordpress.com and enter my username and password in the fields at the top. It never works. I had to go through the 'lost password' routine about 4 times. The 3rd time I received my new password, I logged on and changed it to my own password and saved my account changes. I tried logging on again, with my new password and it didn't work. The last time I did the 'last password' routine, even the password they gave me didn't work.

Just when I was about to attempt to use the 'emergency password reset script', I received the automatic email that lets you view and approve, trash or spam comments left on your blog. It was spam, so I clicked the spam link and it took me to a log on page. I entered my username, the password I created on my own and it worked like a charm.

I am still unable to log on by going to wordpress.com.

Does anyone know why I can't just log on like a normal wordpress user?

I shouldn't have to go to a special link each time. And what if it stops working after a while?

Is this a problem with my account or wordpress?

Is it because I'm using hosting other than wordpress?

I would appreciate any help! :-)

    You should contact wordpress.com support:

I tried, but they won't get back to me since they are not hosting my blog. They only offer support if they are hosting it for me. (I even tried to lie and say that they were hosting our blog, but they found out when they looked into my account, so that didn't work either.)

"Do you pay another company to host your blog? If so, you’re running the self-hosted version of WordPress, available at WordPress.org. Here we only provide support for WordPress.com, which is a different entity. Good news, though! WordPress.org has a very helpful forum."

    That's why I'm here! :-)

So, why are you trying to login at wordpress.com?

We still use wordpress.com to log on to our blog, manage it, and post new things, etc.

That's strange, because you can't. The wordpress.com Dashboard is only for managing wordpress.com blogs. Even if your non-wordpress.com blog was accessible via the wordpress.com Dashboard, selecting it would simply take you to your non-wordpress.com blog's Dashboard at yourdomain.com/wp-admin/

I tried ourdomain.com/wp-admin/ and I was able to log on.

From our dashboard, we are still able to make new posts, etc. correct?

Sorry for my complete ignorance--I didn't set up our account, I'm coming into all this blind, and the guy who set it up is out of the country for a month. I don't even post on our blog, I'm just trying to take care of our spam.

So I don't know how the girl who posts our blog was doing it before, but I can just tell her to log on by going to ourdomain.com/wp-admin/?

I guess this solves our problem...

I just wonder how I was able to log on through wordpress.com before??

    Thanks

    You should be able to.

That's correct. There's no need for the old wordpress.com login.
