I've wasted way to much time and sleep on this problem – can anybody solve it?
Last week http://waterputty.com was working fine. Come Monday I could no longer log in. I've tried all the documented solutions (http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble) to no avail. I've even tried restoring the site and database from a good backup and creating a new database.
I'm running PHP 5.2.12
Linix: Linux 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5PAE #1 SMP Thu May 7 11:14:31 EDT 2009 i686
Server API: CGi
MYSQL API: 5.0.92
Wordpress: 3.1
Login: http://www.waterputty.com/wordpress/wp-login.php
Username: [removed]
Password: [removed]
You shoud never put user name password in a forum
Did you try and reset your user name password
http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
Yes -- several times. I've tried all the suggestions in this article several times. The password doesn't appear to be the problem.
The password doesn't appear to be the problem.
What makes you think that?
what version wordpress you using did you try deactivate plugins see if there is conflict
Have you tried: - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
- switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems? -
resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
Can't "deactivate" or change theme – can't get logged in. :•(
Tried removing the entire plug-ins folder in 3.1 through CS4 ftp.
Obviously I haven't installed or activated any plug-ins since I've been unable to log in. As I've stated, I've tried everything suggested this to utter frustration.
Anybody else have any ideas to try before I totally wipe my WordPress installation and rebuild the site? When I enter my login name and password, there's a few seconds of activity and then the username and password boxes go blank. The screen never changes otherwise. Clicking the "Log In" button with nothing entered for username and/or password does not produce any error messages. Clicking the "Lost your password" brings up the recover screen, but sends no reset email. And, yes, I've used PhpMyAdmin to check and reset my email address, username and password. I assume that since the site still works, the database is connecting. I just can't log in. Any ideas anybody?
You can replace all files and folders except wp-content and wp-config.php and see if that clears your problem.
Thanks for the suggestion. I've already tried a complete restore from backup. Are you suggesting a new install and then restoring just the wp-content folder and wp-config.php file from backup?
Can I install a second new instance of WordPress in a new directory or do I need to uninstall the current installation first?
I meant is that since you have problem loging in you delete all files and folders from your current install except the ones above as wp-content has your themes and plugins and uploads and wp-config.php file has your database info.

I am having the exact same problem.
One linux host that has several wp installations as virtual hosts. Every installation stopped responding to log in attempts in the same way as described above.
Curiously, I can log in using WP ios app, but the php login screen just doesn't work.
Any advice in this ? I have tried every known workaround, but nothing seems to help.
