Not sure about the version.
I'm locked out of website following updating plugins and i get this message:
Warning: fopen(/home/catalystc45/domains/catalystcentre.ca/public_html/devel/wp-content/plugins/ajax-event-calendar/css/cat_colors.css) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/catalystc45/domains/catalystcentre.ca/public_html/devel/wp-content/plugins/ajax-event-calendar/ajax-event-calendar.php on line 1642
cannot open file
our website is still in development and not yet live

Use FTP. Backup/delete the Ajax Event Calendar Plugin folder. Restore access to your site, then attempt to reinstall/reactivate the Plugin.
You could enable allow_url_fopen in php.ini, but I can't fathom why a Plugin would need to fopen() a CSS file, and it's probably not worth the potential security risk of enabling allow_url_fopen.

Thanks, that seems pretty clear and we're likely simply to bail on the calendar plugin (not that crucial at the moment). But if possible, can you tell me what/where i'm FTPing? Or is that something i should know from our website host? I've sent them a query but haven't heard back in a couple of days.
I assume i should be able to access a WordPress directory where i can see this Ajax Plugin folder and scrap it. Any clue would be appreciated
