I am running WordPress locally via MAMP Version 2.0.5 installed on OS X Lion with php version 5.3.6.
I can log in to the dashboard and activate a theme but when I attempt to preview the theme, I only see the following:

    Index of /

    readme.html
    wp-activate.php
    wp-admin/
    wp-app.php
    wp-blog-header.php
    wp-comments-post.php
    wp-config.php
    wp-content/
    wp-cron.php
    wp-includes/
    wp-links-opml.php
    wp-load.php
    wp-login.php
    wp-mail.php
    wp-pass.php
    wp-register.php
    wp-settings.php
    wp-signup.php
    wp-trackback.php
    xmlrpc.php

Try turning off directory indexing on your server.

Thank you esmi. I added the following "Options All -Indexes" to /MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf

    # Possible values for the Options directive are "None", "All",
    # or any combination of:
    # Indexes Includes FollowSymLinks SymLinksifOwnerMatch ExecCGI MultiViews
    #
    # Note that "MultiViews" must be named *explicitly* --- "Options All"
    # doesn't give it to you.
    #
    # The Options directive is both complicated and important. Please see
    # http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/core.html#options
    # for more information.
    #
    Options All -Indexes

This did not solve the problem of being unable to preview themes. Not sure if it turned off directory indexing on the Apache server running via MAMP.

Is this the correct way to change the setting? If not, please advise.

Thank you for your help so far.

  4. Where's your index.php file?

    @Ipstenu
My index.php file was located in the wordpress folder but it was the WRONG index.php file. Arrrgh. Thanks for posing the question and helping me find a solution.
