Local Installation Not Detecting Update to 3.0 (2 posts)

Hi! I'm a newbie, learning wordpress via a local installation. I'm using 2.9.2, and I know for a fact that 3.0 is available. However, when I go to Tools -> Upgrade, it tells me "You have the latest version of WordPress. You do not need to upgrade."

I've checked the permissions on my installation, specifically that my /usr/share/wordpress and all subfiles are owned by www-data, as per these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WordPress. I'm happy to change the umask, but 777 (as some have suggested) seems a bit extreme.

So now I'm confused and wondering what I missed and how I can fix it. :)

If it isn't obvious by now, I'm on Ubuntu. Also, I'm running Apache. Any help is much appreciated!

Try upgrading manually. It won't take too long, and it should definitely work.
