   After wrestling with MAMP for a day and hitting wall after wall I started fresh today with XAMPP. Found a great online tutorial, but it's a little outdated once I get wordpress up and running locally. When I try to import tools or add/delete plugins it asks me for ftp information.

   any help would be greatly appreciated.

   re-installed MAMP, same exact problem. There are numerous workarounds for this online, tried many of them, none of them worked.
