[resolved] [plugin: LJ Comments Import] - not working for me (9 posts)

    Using LJ-XP and LJ Comments Import, and I can't get the Comments Import to do anything at all. I don't know if there is a problem, because it doesn't give any error, it just.... does nothing.

    I followed the instructions for installation (though my wp-config did not have DB_CHARSET or DB_COLLATE that the LJ import file wanted, so I just left them as default), but when I click the "Sync Livejournal comments now" button, and then "Are you sure" pops up - I select "Yes", and then... nothing. Nothing loads, no comments get imported, no error, nothing.
    It still says "Last successful sync: unknown" no matter what I do. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, and no difference.

    Any suggestions?

    I just checked my database in phpmyadmin.

    I can see the plugin has added wp_lj_comments, wp_lj_comments_meta, and wp_lj_comments_users to the database, so I assume the plugin is not having trouble connecting to the database. These tables are empty (as no comments have been imported).

    I also discovered that the rest of my DB uses latin1_swedish_ci as the collation, so I changed that from utf-8 in the plugin, but the plugin still does not work work me.

    The default directory for the plugin is lj-comments-import, and it needed to be changed to lj_comments_import. After I did that it worked like a charm!

    Did your comments import with no problems once you'd renamed the directory? I did that, and it *appears* to work, but no comments are actually added. My server logs show:

    [Tue Oct 06 13:53:11 2009] [error] [client 192.102.214.6] PHP Warning:  curl_setopt() [<a href='function.curl-setopt'>function.curl-setopt</a>]: CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION cannot be activated when in safe_mode or an open_basedir is set in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/onlydreaming.net/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/lj_comments_import/sync_lj_comments.php on line 58, referer: http://www.onlydreaming.net/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=lj_comments_import.php

    Even when I disable CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION in the script, I still get the last two errors showing up. Any ideas?

    Thank you for posting the fix, Taipa. I was wondering why it just sat here doing nothing. ;)

    Okay, so "Import finished" but it didn't import anything. Do the posts have to be public? Even though it asked for my password?

    Add me to the list of folks for whom the plug-in doesn't work. I also did all the install steps correctly, and it just sits there.

    I renamed the directory using _ instead of - and it just broke the plug-in.

    You need to deactivate and reactivate your plugin if you rename the directory.

    Mine says "LiveJournal comments import finished." but I don't see any comments on my WP site. :(

    Really hope somebody would fix or create another LJ comment plugin!
