• I have searched, and not found help yet, so if this is elsewhere, please forgive me…
I am using WP 1.2.1… I have followed the instructions for importing LiveJournal posts to the letter… I run the import-livejournal.php and it says all done Have Fun! But the posts are nowhere to be found. They don’t show up in my archive…
Two things occur to me (if there is a third possibility, and it’s the problem, please share):
    (1) I’m doing something wrong on the export from live journal. What should I be using for the Encoding? (I’ve been using Unicode (UTF-8), which is the default.) Is there any field that I should deselect?
    (2) I’m not doing something I should be in WordPress. But other than edit the live-journal.php file, and running it, I don’t know what else to do. I get the okay screen, but the posts aren’t there.
Any help/suggestions/dope slaps will be appreciated. 🙂

  • The encoding used should not be a problem – the posts should show up.
Did you import the posts as admin, and can you check on the edit posts page after you login to check if the posts are there in wordpress? (maybe they are set as drafts or something)
Let me know how it goes, you can email me at
mail at carthik dot net if you have any trouble with the importer. In the worst case, I can try it out on my install and let you know how it went.

I did try (after reading your response) to import as admin… Same results.
One thing I noticed is that there is no count up as the import happens. It seems to happen immediately, as though the file were empty. (But it does claim success, so I’m assuming the file is being located.)
When I go into edit, there are no new posts there, drafts or otherwise.
From other comments I’ve found here, I have the impression that it’s okay to have the .xml file in the wp-admin directory. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?
When I do the export from LJ, I highlight and copy the text from my browser page and paste it into a new BBEdit file, then save it as an .xml document. That’s correct, too, right?
Sorry. I feel like I’m screwing up something obvious here.
