    Hi,

I just loaded your plug-in and it is really great. It is something that is being done for a client of mine so it is being uploaded on a project server and then will be transferred to the server once it’s complete. Once that is done I will be purchasing your PayPal plug-in module but for now everyone is going in as free.

My question to you is am I able to once the website is live to put in their expiration times and give them access to a login and password so they can update their information whenever they need to? And if I can, how would I go about doing it?

Hopefully there is a way to do this, and that I didn’t do it backwards :-).

Thank you in advance, I appreciate your help and this fantastic plug-in.

    Hi Victor,

Let me make sure I understand what you’re asking:

You’d like to know if after uploading a bunch of listings (either manually or CSV) if the users that should own those listings can edit them?

If that’s your question, that’s easy to do. First, before you create their listings, make sure there’s a user account assigned to them. Next, upload or create the listings.

When you upload the listings, make sure the username column has their usernmae in it (repeat for all listings). If you create the listing as admin, you can assign it to a user when you are editing it at the bottom–look for the Author field of the listing. Change it to their username.

If you didn’t do that initially, it’s not a problem to go back and fix it afterward.

If I didn’t answer your question, please let me know and clarify it a bit and I’ll try again. 🙂

Thank you for the response. I think I know the answer to my question I just want to make sure I get it right. No, I did not set up user accounts for each one of them, would I do that just as I would set up the user and admin with a specific user capability? Meaning instead of subscriber may be use listing? Or is there a way that it needs to be done within your plug-in?

Also, once that is done can I change the listing expirations so they fit within the time that they would expire?

Hopefully that all make sense, I will go in and look at setting up the user in the plug-in to see if I missed something but if there is anything that you can share it is appreciated.

Thank you again for your time.

    Hi Victor,

You should setup users before hand (we don’t import them for you). Subscriber role is fine for everyone. There is an expire_date column in the CSV import (I think it’s missing from the docs, I need to add that!) that you can use to specify individual listing expirations for initial import. The column name might be expiration_date or expire_date, I’m not sure. Try both, if neither works, get back to me. The date format should be whatever is specified in the import settings.

    Hello again,

Is there a way to set up an expiration date when adding them through the standard admin control panel?

I tried to add myself as a new listing and put in a subscriber username as the author, after doing this I tried to login to see my listing and was not able to. I can login to the control panel with my limited subscriber area but I am unable to see the listing. Is there a different login I’m supposed to use, and if so what is it?

Thanks again for all your help

I just figured out how to do the login, so that’s good. So my only question regarding the above is the expiration date. Is there any way for me to set that?

    Hi Victor,

You can’t manually change listings’ expiration date, as it is determined by when it was posted/approved and the plan used for the listing (free vs. paid). For imports, you can set the listing expiration date per my comment above.

Can I ask why you want to change the expiration date for a new listing that is posted under a fee plan or a free listing with a set expiration? Imported listings I can understand, since you want to preserve the prior state of the listing, but I’m having a hard time understanding the use case here. Can you elaborate?

This client of mine has a directory on their website right now and we have upgraded to yours, although there’s everything was put in manually. Right now all of them are free but will need to be changed to the expiration date which will be the end of March. Right now we don’t have the PayPal plug-in something we will be adding once the website is live on their server, I have a feeling that the only way I will be able to change these people to a set date is by re-inputting them, but even then I am concerned about them having to make payment since they already did. Does that make sense?

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

Another question in regard to manage listings, when I login to update a listing both in the admin as well as the subscriber all the fields are empty but when I go on the website everything is there as was originally put in. What is really odd is when I go to the actual listing page on the website while being login to admin and then click view and then edit I can see everything. Any idea what might be causing it to do that?

I think I figured a way to change the expiration date but I want to get your feedback before I do it. If I export the CSV and then change the expiration date and then re-import it, will it overwrite the existing listings or will it create duplicates? The only thing I can think of it that doesn’t work is to maybe go to PHP admin it the files would be in there and change the expiration date from there. Please advise.

In regard to the message before this one, for whatever reason everything showing up at so it’s resolved.

I look forward to your feedback.

Re-importing the same listings will create duplicates. CSV import does not try to update existing listings at all. So you can do this:

    – Export existing listings as CSV
    – Delete existing listings
    – Update the CSV with expiration dates
    – Import the CSV

That should work. I would strongly recommend backing up the database before this operation in case something goes wrong. 🙂

    Hello again,

I tried testing it with the date change before deleting the existing listings and as expected it did create duplicates which was fine but it did not accept the date changes. Some of those duplicated even received expiration emails. I tried it with just a couple to see if I can get it to work and I couldn’t.

What happens as soon as they are uploaded it shows them pending so I had to publish each one and then I exported the CSV to see what the expiration dates were and they were either all zeros or today’s date which initiated the emails being sent out.

Realizing that I am doing something wrong, could you please direct me on how to get the expiration dates to load properly or could the problem be because we have not purchased the PayPal plug-in yet which were going to do when he goes live on the website.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Victor

    Hi Victor,

I would need to see a sample of the CSV file you are using and how you used the expiration date. Can you post it here? A link would be fine. Keep the CSV file under 3 lines for simplicity, please.

So, just so I’m clear–when you did the first export, you saw the expiration dates as 0s? On what version of BD is this?

    Hello,

Thank you for your response back. The version of BDP that I am using is 3.2.3. Below is the different CSV’s for you to look at that I have been working with after exporting changing the dates and then importing end dates are just are not taking and in some cases they show as all zeros as you will see.

This is an import test that I tried today:
    http://simplewebsiteservices.com/project-dev/import-test.csv

After it loaded I did and export to see what the expiration dates were. This is a partial list so you could see the zeros as I mentioned.
    http://simplewebsiteservices.com/project-dev/export-with-zeros.csv

This is a partial list of what I initially tried to import and I got all messed up, hence why I contacted you.
    http://simplewebsiteservices.com/project-dev/first-import.csv

This is the full list with the necessary expiration dates that I needed to upload into the system that I tried to do the first time.

Please let me know if you need anything else, I really appreciate your help with this.

    Kind regards,
